Learning to Lead

I’m in a season of learning…

After 20+ years of thinking and working and living in a particular direction, I was given an opportunity to lead and learn and grow into some new areas.

I did not go looking for this change, but as I began to explore it, something about it just felt right. Like it was the right next step… that I never would have guessed for myself.

While so much of what I have learned and experienced over the past two decades in Higher Education has set me up well for this new opportunity, there is a lot that I know I have yet to learn.

While my years of higher ed experience have positioned me well, there are many ways in which I still feel the “newbie” in my new role.

With a little more breathing room, now that the school year has wrapped up, I find myself thinking about learning and leading. Leading and learning. Wanting to use the summer months to, among other things, set myself (and my team) up well for the year (and years) to come.

And I’m guessing there are plenty of people out there who have experienced something like this before.

Or maybe you’re experiencing it right now!?

I’m curious…

What have you found to be most helpful in these seasons of learning and transition?

What are some of the ways you have leveraged your previous experience and formation to accelerate and/or multiply your new learning.

How did you navigate leading others in the midst of your need for new learning?

Finally, what tips would you have for those new to leadership? What do you wish you would have known when you were just getting into it?
